Fathers and daughters in Bauchi State have engaged in an interactive dialogue on family roles and gender equality as part of activities marking the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, organized by the Young Leaders Network (YLN).
The event themed “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Daughter/Father Parley” sought to strengthen communication between fathers and their daughters while promoting inclusion, leadership, and gender-responsive parenting.
Speaking during the event, the Executive Director of the Young Leaders Network YLN Seun Justin Onarinde said the Daughter/Father Parley was designed to remind families that true empowerment begins at home.
He described the event as “a conversation where love meets leadership,” emphasizing that supportive fathers play a critical role in shaping confident, goal-driven daughters.

Onarinde thanked all participating fathers for prioritizing the event and expressed appreciation to YLN partners including the Malala Fund and the Bauchi State Ministry of Education for their continued advocacy toward girls’ education and empowerment.
Also speaking, Abdullahi Baffa, Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Bauchi State Ministry of Education, commended YLN for organizing the initiative and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to collaborating with organizations that promote girl-child education.
In her presentation titled “A Father’s Hand, A Daughter’s Strength,” Charity Solomon of YLN noted that the event celebrated fathers who actively support and inspire their daughters to become change agents.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, Comrade Umar Sa’idu, who spoke on “A Father’s Role in Raising Empowered and Confident Daughters in Today’s World,” called on the Bauchi State Government to consider reducing school fees for girls as part of its gender-inclusive education policy.

A panel discussion moderated by Safiya Saleh further explored “The Role of Fathers in Promoting Gender Balance at Home and Creating Opportunities for Girls to Thrive,” emphasizing the need for fathers to model equity, empathy, and shared responsibility within their households.
The event ended with renewed commitments from both fathers and daughters to foster stronger family bonds and inclusive environments where every girl can thrive and lead with confidence.
