World Press Freedom Day: Bala Mohammed Felicitates Journalists

The Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has congratulated journalists in the state and across Nigeria on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, marked annually on May 3rd.
In a press release issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the Governor described journalists as critical partners in nation-building, commending their resilience, courage, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Governor Mohammed, who has a background in media practice, acknowledged the sacrifices made by journalists in ensuring that citizens remain informed, despite the challenges associated with the profession.
He noted that the role of the press in strengthening democracy, promoting transparency, and fostering good governance cannot be overemphasized, stressing that a free and responsible media is essential for a progressive society.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining a media-friendly environment in Bauchi State, assuring that journalists would continue to operate without fear or intimidation.
He, however, urged media practitioners to uphold the ethics of the profession by ensuring accuracy, objectivity, and promoting national unity in their reportage.
Governor Bala Mohammed also called on stakeholders to support and protect press freedom as a fundamental human right, while wishing journalists a successful World Press Freedom Day celebration.
