UNFPA Partners Bauchi Govt, Almuhibba Foundation To Boost Livelihoods Of PWDs

Fifty individuals with special needs are among the 120 persons supported under the Economic Empowerment and Skills Development program for persons with disabilities and vulnerable households in Yelwan Duguri village, Alkaleri Local Government Area.

 

The gusture which was facilitated by the United Nations Population Funds UNFPA in collaboration with Almuhibba Foundation was designed to improve living conditions and foster economic inclusion through Cosmetology, Tofu makers, Bean cake sellers and Groundnut oil extractors.

Speaking during the event, the Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya A’isha Bala Mohammed while flagging off the empowerment programme, described it as a “beacon of hope” aimed at uplifting disadvantaged groups and enhancing their self-reliance.

 

Represented by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Nana Asma’u Muhammad Auwal Jatau reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving the lives of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and vulnerable households through economic empowerment and skills development initiatives.

 

She therefore commended the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for its continuous advocacy on the rights of women and children, urging beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items distributed under the programme.

 

In her remark, the Coordinator of Almuhibba Foundation, Zahara Baba, explained that beneficiaries were carefully selected due to prevailing economic hardships, with the aim of improving their livelihoods, noting that the foundation would continue to monitor the beneficiaries to ensure proper utilisation of the support provided.

 

Also speaking, Mrs. Deborah Tabara, Gender and Reproductive Health Analyst, United Nations Population Funds, emphasized the core mission of UNFPA in ensuring maternal and reproductive health, stating that “every child should be wanted” adding that many of the beneficiaries come from hard-to-reach areas, while reaffirming their commitment to continue partnering with Almuhibba Foundation to enhance the wellbeing of women and families across Bauchi State.

Earlier in his address, the village head of Yelwan Duguri Alhaji Y.M. Baba who was represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Sarkin Yaki, assured that the empowerment exercise would be conducted peacefully and transparently to achieve its objectives.

oving their lifes.
