Health authorities in Bauchi State have renewed calls for residents to prioritize hospital care over home treatment, following a late-night inspection by the Executive Chairman of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Muhammad Sambo Alkali, at the Women and Children Hospital.

The surprise visit, carried out yesterday, was part of an ongoing initiative aimed at strengthening accountability, improving night-shift performance, and ensuring that patients receive timely medical attention at government hospitals.

While moving through the facility, Dr. Alkali encountered an emergency case in which a patient was brought in at a critical stage.

Concerned by the delay before seeking hospital treatment, he placed a call to the patient’s guardian and strongly cautioned against keeping sick individuals at home without professional medical care.

He noted that such delays have led to preventable deaths and complications, stressing that hospitals are well-equipped to handle emergencies and should be the first point of contact when illness arises.

The Executive Chairman encouraged families to seek help early rather than relying on self-medication or home remedies.

At the hospital, Dr. Alkali also assessed the presence and performance of staff on duty. To his satisfaction, workers were found at their posts attending to patients, maintaining proper records, and ensuring the wards were clean and operational.

He commended the hospital personnel for their dedication, especially those on night shifts who sacrifice rest to save lives. He added that their commitment reflects the growing improvement in healthcare service delivery across the state.

Dr. Alkali concluded by appreciating the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for consistently investing in the health sector and providing the support needed for quality service delivery.

He directed the hospital In-Charge to intensify supervision, insisting that every unit must maintain punctuality, efficiency, and accountability.
