Choosing Leadership: Why Yusuf Tuggar Stands Out

By Habib Chadi Muhammad Esq

Leadership is the catalyst that transforms potential into progress. Our state requires a leader who prioritizes integrity, service, and the collective advancement of the people over personal gain. We need a leader with proven experience in leadership, politics, economic growth, and sound administrative capacity.

We are facing great challenges which have now assumed a daunting and complex dimension, ranging from insecurity, economic stagnation, youth disorientation, and the decline of human capital development, among other things. All these factors are germane considerations in choosing who will command and steer the leadership of our dear State.

The answer is unambiguous that Yusuf Tuggar is the best man for the job. He is the man who always looks at the vast potentials embedded in the state and believes in responsible stewardship of its resources. His disciplined character, blended with patriotism and experience, constitutes the exact leadership profile required at this critical juncture of our state. We need leadership that inspires and harnesses the greatness in the people it governs, creates enabling opportunities for the youth, and strategically opens doors for economic investment and sustainable development of the state.

We, the people of Bauchi State, have resolved not to be swayed by the noise echoing in the political arena, but to focus on the collective interest and long-term welfare of the good people of the state over narrow personal gains. By so doing, it has become evident that our decision to back Yusuf Tuggar stems from his verifiable record of personal and public achievements, defining him as an instrument of national development, and not from the distribution of money or inducements to influence public opinion.

His community service and philanthropic initiatives, both personally and through the Yusuf Tuggar Foundation, have been consistently impactful to communities in Bauchi for over two decades, resulting in measurable community upliftment with focus on Digital Literacy & IT, Humanitarian Aid & Food Security, among other things. These focus areas are clear evidence of his foresight, insight, and commitment to sustainable development and self-reliance, rather than dependency and stagnation.

The leader has been in the political fabric for long, which makes him a tested, reliable, and formidable candidate with wide experience of Nigeria’s and the international political landscape. His tenure as a Member of the House of Representatives representing Gamawa Federal Constituency was marked by remarkable and verifiable achievements, focused on legislative reform, oversight of public spending, and infrastructure development. The Ambassador chaired and contributed significantly to the committee on Public Procurement, regulating government spending across vital sectors, including oil and gas, education, health, and water resources. He was actively involved in efforts to institutionalize transparency by advocating for the separation of the executive arm, particularly the President’s cabinet, from the direct awarding of contracts, thereby reducing corruption, and he oversaw the creation of the National Council on Public Procurement.

His compassion was not limited to the good people of Nigeria alone but also extended to the protection of animals by sponsoring a bill on the humane transport of livestock. His tenure in office was marked with significant legislative contributions and policy input in the country’s foreign affairs, Petroleum (Upstream), Legislative Budgeting, Agriculture, Labour, and Interior. A man with such depth of input, network, and expertise stands clearly distinguished and unmatched in the race for the gubernatorial seat of our dear State.

The achievements of this great son of our state as Minister of Foreign Affairs further reinforce our confidence that he is indeed the man for the job. As citizens of Bauchi State, we are proud to align ourselves with the person of the Ambassador for his resilience, composure, discipline, and firmness while steering one of the most sensitive ministerial portfolios. It has been widely acknowledged that the wrong narratives about our great Nation were decisively confronted under his watch. He was fearless and firm, stood his ground, articulated Nigeria’s position with clarity and conviction, and effectively countered misleading global perceptions about the Nation. His diplomacy and tactical response to these situations amply demonstrate his competence, patriotism, and leadership courage. He is indeed a true son of the Nation.

His vast knowledge has enabled him to achieve what many considered difficult within a short period, including redefining Nigeria’s global engagement through strategic economic diplomacy aimed at attracting foreign investments, managing regional security through proactive diplomacy, and digitizing consular services. These achievements were actualized through his well-articulated 4D Doctrine Strategy (Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora).

His patriotism and love for his people can be clearly seen in the successful and swift repatriation of stranded citizens from conflict areas and his role in negotiating the return of looted cultural artifacts to Nigeria. His record in strengthening bilateral ties, which advanced Nigeria’s interests through engagements with the Global South and key traditional partners, is widely regarded as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s diplomatic history. This kind of mindset and capacity is what our state desperately yearns for.

My fellow Bauchians, we should not make the mistake of being blind or confused by the discordant and misleading rhetoric of the political realm. We need a competent, visionary, and unifying leader with a clear focus on the sustainable progress and prosperity of the state.

In conclusion, the choice before us is clear and compelling. It is a choice between uncertainty and tested leadership, between rhetoric and proven capacity, between personal ambition and genuine service to the people. In Yusuf Tuggar, we find a leader whose record speaks louder than promises, whose vision aligns with the aspirations of our people, and whose competence inspires confidence in the future of our state. Therefore, in the interest of justice, progress, and the collective good of Bauchi State, we must rise above sentiments and make a deliberate, informed, and courageous decision to support a leader who is not only prepared for the task, but committed to delivering measurable results. The time to choose purposeful leadership is now.
