Bauchi State Committee for the Creation of Additional Emirates, Chiefdoms and Districts has submitted its report to Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, recommending the creation of thirteen new Emirates, two Chiefdoms and one hundred and eleven Districts across the state.

Presenting the report at the Government House, Bauchi, the Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam, explained that the committee was inaugurated on the 4th of July, 2025.

He said their mandate was to review various requests submitted by communities, assess their historical, cultural, and administrative justifications, and make fair recommendations that promote justice, inclusiveness, and peaceful coexistence.

Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam disclosed that the committee received a total of one hundred and ninety-six memoranda from communities across the state.

Seventeen of the memoranda were for the creation of Emirates, one hundred and sixty-six were for Districts, while the rest were for Chiefdoms. After a thorough review, the committee recommended the establishment of thirteen new Emirates, two Chiefdoms and one hundred and eleven Districts.

Receiving the report, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed commended the committee for what he described as a transparent and painstaking exercise.

He expressed appreciation for the methodology and models adopted during the assignment, noting that the process reflected strong community ownership and participation.

The Governor explained that the reform aligns with his administration’s vision to “unbundle Bauchi” for more effective governance, eliminate ungoverned spaces, and provide communities with a greater sense of belonging and self-actualization.

He said such steps are necessary to strengthen traditional institutions and improve grassroots administration.

Governor Bala Mohammed also acknowledged that while the exercise might be painful for some traditional rulers, similar exercises had taken place in other parts of Nigeria and even beyond Africa.

He assured traditional rulers and communities that government would implement the recommendations fairly, balancing the aspirations of new communities with the dignity and status of existing traditional institutions.

It will be recalled that the committee on the creation of additional Emirates, Chiefdoms and Districts was inaugurated in July 2025 by Governor Bala Mohammed.

The committee was tasked to consider historical, cultural, social and administrative factors before making recommendations that would promote inclusiveness, justice, equity, and peaceful coexistence across Bauchi State.
