Approval Of N449M For Aliero Varsity’s Health Courses: Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Sununu commends Gov Idris
The Honourable Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, has lauded Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, for approving the sum of Four Hundred and Forty-Nine Million, One Hundred and Ninety-Three Thousand, Four Hundred Naira and Eight Kobo (₦449,193,400.08) for the College of Health Sciences, Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA).
The funds, according to the Minister, will facilitate the accreditation of key Health Sciences courses in the institution.
Dr. Sununu explained that his commendation was necessary as he had personally appealed to the Governor on the issue of accreditation when approached by concerned stakeholders.
“I had three discussions with His Excellency in less than two weeks. His response was simple: ‘Let the university authorities make a submission, and I am ready to act immediately.’ True to his word, he approved all their requests without delay,” he said.
The Minister further noted that with the Governor’s intervention, students of the College of Health Sciences will now have a secured future, while the state will also benefit from the production of more doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals needed to strengthen healthcare delivery in Kebbi.
He urged philanthropists, legislators, and stakeholders to support the Governor’s commitment to advancing medical education in the state through scholarships, donations, research grants, infrastructural development, and useful advisory contributions.
Dr. Sununu, a former Secretary General of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and current member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), reiterated his deep appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris.
He stressed that while medical training is capital intensive, its long-term dividends are invaluable to society.
