BSG Kicks Against Boi District’s Placement Under Zaar Chiefdom, Calls for Referendum and Dialogue
By Isiyaka Ismail Wunti
The Boi Solidarity Group has strongly rejected the placement of the newly created Boi District under the Zaar Chiefdom, insisting that the decision does not reflect the collective will of the Boi Ayaa people.
It also argued that, the Boi Ayaa people never consented to such alignment, describing it as an imposition by a few individuals, and warned that it threatens their history, identity, and traditional autonomy.
In a statement signed by spokesperson of the group David Mark Rabu and made available to Globe FM Bauchi, the group however welcomed the elevation of the Boi Village Head to the status of a District Head.
The group alleged that the placement of Boi District under the Zaar Chiefdom resulted from the actions of a few self-serving individuals, adding that memoranda, petitions and submissions made during public hearings opposing the move were ignored by relevant authorities.
The statement recalled Governor Bala Mohammed’s earlier promise of a referendum for minority groups, noting that the Boi Ayaa people were denied the opportunity to decide their traditional alignment and administrative future through a peaceful and democratic process.
The group therefore called on the Bauchi State Government to urgently clarify the status of Boi District, engage legitimate community representatives, and ensure justice, consultation and transparency to sustain peace and development across the state.
