YLN, Partners Plant 400 Trees To Promote Climate Action In Gwallameji

In a bold step towards promoting environmental sustainability, the Young Leaders Network (YLN), in collaboration with the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), and other civil society partners, has planted over 400 trees in the Gwallameji community of Bauchi State.
The exercise, which kicked off on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Gwallameji, saw students actively participate in planting trees within the school premises. The event also served as an interactive learning platform to sensitize students on the importance of tree planting, environmental protection, and sustainability practices.
In a symbolic gesture of responsibility and continuity, each student adopted and named a tree after themselves, signifying their personal commitment to nurturing and protecting the environment.

Continuing the initiative, YLN on Saturday, October 25, 2025, planted an additional 300 trees within the community and along the Gwallameji–Doka Road, recently constructed by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
Speaking during the exercise, Mrs. Noadiah Babas, YLN’s Program Manager on Climate Impact and Resilience, said the initiative goes beyond tree planting — it represents the organization’s sustained dedication to climate action and environmental stewardship.
“For us, this is not just an activity. It is a loud statement of our commitment to climate action, community resilience, and a greener Bauchi,” she stated.
Also speaking, the Director General of BASEPA, Dr. Mahmud Muhammad Bose, applauded YLN’s initiative and pledged the agency’s continuous support for its environmental programs.

The Green Gwallameji Tree Planting Exercise forms part of YLN’s Youth Climate Action Fellowship, an ongoing project aimed at empowering young people with practical skills to drive sustainable environmental practices in their communities.
