The Wunti Al-Khair Foundation (WAKF) has convened a community stakeholder engagement forum in Bauchi to gather views and recommendations on the future direction of Wunti International Academy (WIA), ahead of its planned opening in September 2026.
The four-hour engagement, held on Sunday, August 9, 2026, brought together more than 100 stakeholders, including parents, religious and traditional leaders, government officials, academics, educators and representatives of community groups. The forum focused on how the Academy can serve as a sustainable community asset and deliver educational outcomes that meet the aspirations of families in Bauchi.
Founder of the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation, Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti, participated in the engagement through video conference, where he reaffirmed the vision behind the Academy. He said WIA is designed to combine a British-curriculum-structured learning environment with strong Islamic values under the motto, “Learn. Lead. Light the Way,” while remaining firmly rooted in the Bauchi community.
The discussions, facilitated by the Director of Programmes at Wunti Al-Khair Foundation, Ango Mustapha, generated recommendations on affordable school fees, waqf-based subsidy support for underserved families, religious and cultural alignment, extracurricular activities and programmes that would strengthen the Academy’s relationship with the wider community.
Among the stakeholders who contributed to the discussions were Professor Musa Adamu Wunti of Sa’adu Zungur University and Professor Ahmed Jibrin Nayaya of the Faculty of Science, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU). Their contributions, alongside those of other participants, formed part of the recommendations presented to the wider assembly before the close of the engagement.
The forum also witnessed the formal introduction of the Academy’s Head of School to the community, as well as the nomination of community representatives to serve on the school’s board. The Foundation said the move is intended to ensure that community perspectives remain part of the Academy’s governance and development.
Speaking at the close of the engagement, WAKF said the recommendations would be consolidated into a Stakeholder Input Report, while a standing Parent-Community Advisory Committee would be established to sustain community participation beyond the school’s opening. Wunti International Academy is expected to begin admissions in September 2026, offering programmes from Preschool to Year 6, with phased expansion planned through the 2030/31 academic year.
