Poor Sanitation Practices Fuel Typhoid Outbreak In Bauchi – Says Expert

A public health expert, Dr. Adamu Dan Boza, has expressed deep concern over the growing threat of typhoid fever in Bauchi, warning that poor hygiene practices and consumption of contaminated water and food are fueling the spread of the disease.
Speaking during Albarka Radio’s weekly health programme, Allurar Cikin Ruwa, Dr. Boza described typhoid as a daily health challenge now affecting both adults and children across communities.
Dr. Dan Boza added that distinguishing typhoid from malaria can be difficult due to similar symptoms to include persistent fever, weakness, headache, vomiting, and diarrhea which are common signs of typhoid infection. In severe cases, he warned, the disease can develop into psychosis and become life-threatening if untreated.
He also called on parents and community members to seek health advice and take responsibility for ensuring a healthy environment for their children.
According to him, the disease spreads when infected individuals consume damaged or contaminated water and food.
The programme, which is anchored by Sani Adamu Hassan and Zainab Umar Kudu, emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in maintaining public health, urging citizens to be proactive rather than relying solely on government interventions.
