The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, has raised concern that Nigeria’s democratic system is currently facing serious threats, assuring citizens that the PDP remains prepared to rescue the nation.

He made the statement in Bauchi, adding that Nigeria’s democracy is witnessing challenges ranging from governance failures to insecurity and economic hardship, saying the country requires urgent political intervention.

According to him, the PDP, being a major opposition party with national spread, is positioned to restore confidence in democratic institutions and protect the will of the people.

He further noted that preparations for the PDP National Convention are ongoing smoothly without internal crises or distractions. Damagum said the party has put in place solid arrangements that will lead to a successful and peaceful convention, which he described as a defining moment for the PDP and for Nigeria’s political future.

The PDP chairman appealed to Nigerians to rally round the party, support its ideals, and unite towards reclaiming the country from what he described as misgovernance.

He emphasized that the PDP remains committed to accountability, economic revival, and citizens’ welfare, calling on stakeholders to remain steadfast.

Ambassador Damagum concluded by assuring that the party will continue to engage Nigerians across all levels, adding that democracy thrives only when citizens defend it.
