Governor Bala Mohammed has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill of over eight hundred and seventy-seven billion naira into law, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency, fiscal discipline and sustainable development in Bauchi State.
Speaking after assenting to the bill at the Government House, Bauchi, the Governor said the 2026 budget proposal was presented to the State House of Assembly on November 27, 2025, and received timely and objective legislative consideration.
Governor Bala Mohammed commended the Speaker and members of the House for their professionalism and diligence, noting that recurrent expenditure was carefully managed without encroaching on capital development projects.
He described the smooth passage of the budget as evidence of strong collaboration among executive and legislative arms including support from opposition lawmakers whom he said placed governance above partisan interests.
The Governor disclosed that the 2026 budget represents about a forty-two percent increase over the 2025 estimates, describing it as a budget of consolidation and sustainability for development and citizens’ welfare.
He said priority areas include infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, security and human capital development adding that Bauchi State recorded about seventy-nine percent budget performance in 2025.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman said the budget emerged from extensive consultations, budget defence sessions and stakeholder engagements to ensure prudence and accountability.
The Speaker explained that the House reduced the initial proposal by one point one billion naira due to concerns over internally generated revenue projections and federal tax reforms, assuring continued legislative oversight for effective implementation of the 2026 budget.
